C1 Windshield Mounting Rods

Hi,
Under the dash on my '59 there are supposed to be two rods attaching the windshield lower frame to the firewall. I can guess why my windshield cracked as neither of them are there. Their GM number is 3719840 which comes out of the AIM. I have called around to the larger vette parts people and have not located any. Does anyone have a couple in their garage in a box or know where I can buy a set?

Well, I thought I had one in my junk box, but on closer inspection I guess it's a nose support bracket. They don't look like they would be very hard to make, but sure would be hard to attach with the car assembled. If you can even borrow one for a pattern, they could be easily made from some proper sized steel rod. Just flatten and bend the ends to the right angle. On my 62, the bracket appears to be welded to the metal piece under the ws channel and then attached to the cowl with a bolt or rivet. Can't see the lower end without taking something apart.

Lee, If I get out of work early enough I will be visiting my car in the hospital Friday. The best I could do is maybe remove one and shoot a digital pix for you with some measurements. I don't think it will get you close enough to replicate the part. Let me know via email. Ken 1958

They list the following: PR #: 6835K
Under dash support rod kit, includes 2 rods, (2) 1/4-20x3/4" bolts, 2 lock washers, 2 flat washers, and 2 nuts. The kit is $12.00.

I thought I owned every Corvette catalog in the world but I don't have a paragon one. Ken, I am going to call Paragon as the web site has a noted on it for more information. If this isn't what I looking for I will send you an email for that picture you mentioned. Again, thanks all
