Two more Restorer issues per year?

At the Boston Meet this weekend I had the chance to make some suggestions to the NCRS Publications Committee (Dale Fiet, Ken James, and Tim McKeon). One of these ideas was to increase the number of Restorer issues from four to six each year. I believe we can do this without increasing the dues by combining the Restorer with the Driveline. This would save on printing and mailing costs. Six large "combined" issues would be less expensive than the ten separate small magazines that we now put out each year. I'm not talking about reducing the number of Restorer pages or Driveline ads. In fact, this plan would actually increase the number of Restorer pages by about 100 each year.

I was surprised by the committee's response. Tim said that he had already discussed combining the two magazines with some members, and these members were very much against it. He got the impression that many members feel this way. I guess if that is true, then I am in the minority. I would much rather have more Restorer pages each year, especially if the only "cost" (?) is seeing the Driveline combined with the Restorer issues.

I know the members of the committee read this board. In fact, Tim suggested that I pose the question to the board followers so he could see the responses. Please post your opinions on this question: Given a choice, would you rather receive six issues of the combined Restorer/Driveline each year with no increase in dues, or would you rather keep the magazines separate and continue to have only four issues of the Restorer each year?

Combine the two into one issue is a good idea! Frank J. Ferrano, West Palm Beach, FL (561) 795-5672.

I would rather see six Restorer/Driveline issues a year than the ten that we get now.

            Jerry,

It's OK by me as long they, physically, remain seperate (both in the same mailing, Driveline as an 'insert') so that I can mark-up the DL ads without messing up The Restorer or being forced to save (or toss) them both.

I save The Restorers but I consider DL to be a 'perishable' item, (unfortunately, it has usually perished before I even get it) so I don't save them beyond their useful 'shelf' life.

If they get (physically) combined, I'll be throwing out The Restorer rather than save them both. Ever notice how they can print stuff faster than you can read it?

Just as a thought, it's kind of nice getting the "restorer" with information, not advertising. I love the ads too, but my "drivelines" get all marked up, and my "Restorers" don't. Having ten per year just gives me that much more to look for from the mailman.

I'll side with Bill Culpepper on this one. I like a little something in the mailbox as often as possible. Clearly, 6 "big ones" don't appear as often as 10 "small ones".

Also- Was there not some problem about receiving enough quality articles for the Restorer ? Would the problem not be compounded by the requirements for 6 issues?

I enjoy 2 different magazines and would vote to keep separate. I also consider DL as disposable but the Restorer is archived each time it after it is read. Keep them separate.
