    Midyear Gas Gauge

Does the gas gauge in a midyear only respond with voltage applied? In other words, does the gauge with the ignition off register what it did when the ignition was on or should it come to rest on empty with the power off as the oil pressure gauge does reading zero???? Thanks for reponding to such a simple question. Bill #20328

The gauge pretty much stays where it was when the power is removed. There was some discussion on this a few months back. Jack Humphery explained why, which I can't remember.

Power off rest position of the pointer needle of the gas gauge will depend on how fresh/new the gauge is. They were originally built with a degree of designed-in bearing friction to thwart needle 'bounce' during on-road maneuvering stress....
