    C-1 HEATER MOTOR

COULD SOMEONE TELL ME HOW AND WHERE THE MOTOR FOR THE HEATER BLOWER GROUNDS ON A 62.MY MOTORS WORKS FINE OUT OF THE CAR ON THE BENCH AND WORKS FINE IN THE CAR WITH THE SWITCH AS LONG AS I ATTACH A GROUND WIRE FROM THE CASE TO A CHASSIS LOCATION SHOULD THERE BE ONE? OR DOES THE FAN GROUND THROUGH THE SWITCH?

If memory serves me right there is a black ground wire that goes to the back of the heater control panel. This should ground the heater. Also check the archives I believe this was discussed in detail a couple of months ago by people who know way more than me.

      Gary,
The heater motor on your 62 is only grounded by the bowden cable that operates the hot water valve. The plate that the clock is installed in is grounded to the harness and then the bowden cable carries the ground to the heater valve which then carries the ground to the plate that mounts the valve which makes contact with the heater fan housing. There are a couple of places to look for problems. If the heater motor is painted real nice, sometimes the screws that attach the motor to the fan housing will not scrape the paint off under the screw heads. You can take a knife and scrape the paint away so the screw head will make good contact with the motor plate. Another real common error is that the foam gasket is on the wrong side of the heater valve mounting plate. If the gasket is between the housing and the plate, it insulates the housing from the ground source. If this is the case, you do not need to tear it all apart to fix.
Just install a self-tapping screw inside the fan housing where it can't be seen to bond the housing and the plate together electrically.

      Regards, John McGraw

I beleive the Heater motor gets it's ground from the heater control cable coming from the center console. There is a place on the drivers side of the console to attached the ground from the harness.

SOLVED THE PROBLEM...THE HEATER CONTROL VALVE HAD BEEN CHANGED IN MY CAR PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE AND THE GASKET HAD BEEN PUT ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE VALVE WHICH WAS NOT ALLOWING THE CONTROL CABLE TO BE GROUNDED. "THANKS FOR THE HELP MEMBERS"
