Did the factory use something like rope cauck on the backside of the windshield stainless trim on C2 convertibles? Thanks Phil

They used almost a pound of non-hardening liquid sealing compound, slathered all around the windshield opening (after installing the windshield) between the rubber weatherstrip and the the body/windshield frame, then installed the moldings after applying the same sealer to the edges of the moldings that contacted the seal and the windshield frame; over time, the goo was everywhere. Application is shown in the A.I.M. in UPC 1, Sheet F22.

Do you recomend replacing all that goo at windshield change time for sealing purposes? It seems like over kill.

I wished that I had used this goo in excess when doing my coupe windshield last spring. It now leaks worse than before and has to be refitted. Better with the over kill I assume.

i just finished install of the glass and "a" post moldings on a 69 and found that talking to a windshield install guy the most benefit for the non drying goo you refer to , i dont have the brand name in front of me , but talk or stopp by a good franchise and chat it up they are the source of quality products , hope that helps
