To show or not show a car?

    I'm new to this hobby! I have a C1 (60) and I'm the second owner (purchased 9/03).
My question is, it a good idea to enter a car into a show to determine where the your car stands against the factory baseline?
It has taken me many years to get the car of my dreams and I just enjoy it.I don't want to over simplify what a number of you take very serious. I don't want a concord car, I want to drive and have fun with it. But I want to (within my financial means) keep this car as original as I can.
Just looking for some feedback? Thank for your time!!

    Jim,
I would suggest you find the nearest Chapter (go to the NCRS home page and then contacts) and join it. Consider having your car judged at the chapter meet they will have this year. It will be the cheapest and best "appaisal" you can get of your car. Not dollar appraisal but originality and condition. Since you bought the car from the original owner, you might have a Bow Tie candidate - something very special. The local people in the Chapter will be a great help.

      Yes!

Mine is on its 3rd paint job, third seat upholstery, and NOM (non-original motor). However, much of it is original, since it has never left the family since new. It was a daily driver 'till 1967, and has never been restored for "show". I have shown the car many times, and as long as I don't compete in classes where the undercarriage will be judged, I tend to place in the top 3. Mostly, it is a fun weekend driver, which is great fun on road rallys, and gives other folks a lot of pleasure just to see it at the shows. Their interest in your car and its history won't be hard to take, either. If you are in SE Pennsylvania, check out the CCDV. Check it out anyway, you'll see the kinds of activities possible.

As a second owner, you may indeed own a

"Bowtie" car, one that would be valuable for others to look at to determine how it was actually done, not necessarily how we would like to think it was done.
Another reason for having it judged at least once is to establish a sort of baseline for the car - if it burns to the ground or is stolen, you hand the adjuster the judging sheets and say "If you're going to replace it, it better be this good.". The rules no longer allow it, but I used to plan on showing my car once, at a National Meet. Nothig like a 1200 mile trip to Bend with 4.11 gears.....

Do it. It's a lot of fun. Join your local NCRS Chapter. You'll learn a lot about the car. What you do after that is your business. Everyone will respect that. Be careful, though. Fine line between a hobby and an obsession. You may become hooked. Spend the children's college fund on NOS parts. Endlessly discuss date stamps and castings. Things like that.
