    Judging suggestion

I participated in my first regional at Boston and found the judges to be very helpful and informative. Although thorough and detailed they were not confrontational which changed my prior perception. Also, sharing info with other owners and seeing details on their cars was great.

A rookie suggestion: Why not have a standard info sheet filled out by the owner to reflect the significant casting codes and part numbers of items on the car? It seemed like much time was spent laboring with mirrors and magnifying glasses(our eyes aren't getting any better). The judges could then randomly audit the lists to keep everyone honest. Also, items like cyl head cast dates, transmission numbers, etc could then be judged.

    Re: Judging suggestion

We did try this system for a year or two at our Chapter meets. Came up with two problems that killed the effort.

    (1) Novice and mid-range owners don't know where to look for all the

numbers and often mistake/confuse and/or get frustrated.

    (2) Judge's job is to verify factory authenticity, so the work of

tracking & checking one by one cannot be avoided.

Bottom line, #2 is the 'killer' and senior judges get reasonably good at the process. Leaving the owner with a 'numbers' sheet might be a nice byproduct, but you've got five different functional judging teams on a given car to coordinate....

Always thought holding a 'teaser' session (intro to NCRS) as a membership drive event where a mini-judging sequence was done by group lecture might be a nice way to draw novice outsiders into the club. But, this wouldn't work for some of the harder items (BB casting date, dist band) where you've got to bend and read with flashlight through mirror....
