    C3 carpets

I saw a carpet set on E-Bay, the seller (Wilcox) claims the following:

68-77 CORVETTE COMPLETE CARPET SET "INCLUDES PAD" THIS IS A BRAND NEW CARPET SET MADE THE LARGEST CORVETTE CARPET MANUFACTURER, AUTO CUTSOM CARPETS.(ACC)

ALL CARPET SETS INCLUDE THE CORRECT HEEL PAD, CORRECT PAD BACKING, AND IS AVAILABLE IN EITHER THE 80-20 LOOP OR THE DELUXE INTERIOR CUTPILE. ALL CARPET SETS ARE MOULDED TO FIT THE FLOOR OF YOUR CAR! CARPET FITS 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 CORVETTES

THIS CARPET IS THE ONLY CARPET THAT WILL MEET NCRS STANDARDS!

Is this true as far as meeting NCRS standards? Price sounds good at $155 buy it now...
    Thanks

    Re: C3 carpets

When I co-owned a restoration shop, ACC had the best fitting carpet for C3s, but they did not have the IMCo logo for 1968-71. This could have changed in the past few years. Romeo's ad in DRIVELINE says they are the only ones doing the logo.

Romeo also indicated recently that their carpets may not be an exact color match, as ACC has recently discontinued selling their bulk carpet yardage to any other carpet suppliers - they're keeping it to themselves, so the other suppliers now have to go elsewhere for bulk product.

Tony, I haven't a clue about the cost of carpet sets now, and I can't say what is specifically true of Willcox, but sellers typically set the "Buy It Now" price at almost what you would expect to pay full retail anyway. If it were me, I would wait and bid the carpet very late after getting a feel for the bidding interest...you may be able to buy the carpet somewhat cheaper than the "Buy It Now" price. Anyway, I have a feeling you may see that same listing again even if you are unsuccessful.

As Reba and John have said, take your choice: the devil or the deep blue sea. You will take deducts on either attribute, but color is more subjective (may not be picked up by judges) than the lack of the IMCO logo. That statement about it being the only carpet that meets NCRS standards is hogwash (none is perfect), but if it were me, I would still go with the ACC carpet (right color) and take the minor point deduct for the lack of IMCO logo.

Their online catalog shows the carpet for $139. They are at:

I have bought a lot from them and they are the cheapest. Jim

            Reba

I think the TM&JG for 68,69 says the IMCo label MAY be faintly visable. Does that mean they all had it, but it may have faded away, or that some originals did not have it?

            Thanks

All known originals had it; sometimes it takes a flashlight and lots of manuevering to find it, escpecially on black. And yes, sometimes, we can only see part of it. I have never found one completely worn away. Romeo's repro of the heel pad is much too obvious and usually receives a note or deduct for that.

There are issues with either supplier. Romeo will take forever to ship you the carpet. Six month's is not unusual and it's not exact. I cancelled an order with them. I couldn't wait any longer I needed to get the car done for Hershey. I purchased ACC thru Last Detail out of Georgia. The carpet was so thin you could see thru it if you held it up to the light. Had to go with it I couldn't wait any longer. The carpet is for a 69 so it was the 80/20 loop pile. There is no logo and the binding on the floor/riser is incorrect. I don't have a solution, but I wanted did want to share my experience. It's the typical repro issue were the quality isn't always what you would like. I think I paid $169 for the carpet not including the shipping. I only lost 1 point in judging.

                Good Luck

Thanks for all the help. I ordered the ACC carpet from Wilcox today. It was $149 with the padding and about $17 to ship. I should have it within 2 weeks.
