I was thinking of posting some repairs that people might like to know about. Like the one I wrote about the gas sender. Here is one that some one may like to know.
The ballast on the heater switch works like the ballast for your points.
The ballast for your point reduces 12V to 8v's or your points will burn in a short time.( PS.if your ballast ever burns out , you can run a wire to by pass it to get home then replace it)
The heater ballast works the same way. As you turn the heater switch to low the motor runs with 8V and when turned to high the motor runs on 12V.
If you have a bad ballast they were used on many G.M early cars where you can yourself replace it. ( that is what usely happens if your heater switch is BAD.)The number of wire wrapping around the porcelain ballastor determines the voltage DROP or amount.( that's how it works) simple.!
