    Patch holes in firewall

I had installed a alarm system in my 65 some years ago and now I want to patch the holes in the firewall before I paint the engine compartment What is the best way to patch the holes (less than 7/16")? Thanks Floyd

    Re: Patch holes in firewall

I'd backstop the hole with masking tape and 'spoon in' fiberglass bond to fill. Then, just as it's taking 'set' lay on a texture mask (appropriate grade of sandpaper can work) to mimic the original and adjacent press molded surface.

If hole is in an area that was shot with factory black out or 'dum dum' it should clean up pretty nicely. If hole is in an area known to be void of surface coating, you'll have to experiment with different fiberglass bonding mixes. At the time your car was built ('65) there was a general transition in the native color of the press molded glass and some cars will exhibit 'mixed mode' body parts (some snow white others light to dark grey)....

Thanks Jack I will give it a try, it should work out pretty well, because the area of the holes is painted black. Thanks again Floyd
