C1 spare

When I purchased my 62 it came with Goodyear power streak G-78-15 tires. The spare in the trunk is a Firestone 670-15. The firestone is 28.58 in over dia.. I don't know what the dia. of the goodyears are, but I know that there smaller. The car does not have a positive traction rear. Will this spare serve its purpose or should I buy another at this time? I wouldn't want to damage my car beyond a flat tire on my way home. Thanks in advance!

G78-15s? Jeez, how old are they? Are they even radials? You should consider replacing them. Even though the tires may have plenty of tread left, they should be replaced when they get old. There's good reasons for this that somebody more knowledgeable than I can explain. I know from practical experience that it's true.

The spare may be worth something if it's original. If it holds air and you do not have positraction, you can use it even though it's different than the others. Handling may be scarey, but it'll get you to where you can have the flat fixed if you drive slowly and carefully. The G78-15 flat, though, may not fit in the well. That'll be a problem if your trunk is full.

Chris... Yep! G-78-15 power Streaks! I don't know how old they are. They do have Dot written on the inside and of course there not radials. Looks like I'd better treat myself to new rubber to avoid bigger problems down the road. Thanks Chris!
