Freeze 12 - Anyone Used It Before?

A friend turned me on to this stuff called Freeze 12. It's EPA approved, and is a heck of a lot cheaper than R12, but it's completely compatible with all components and chemicals that are in existing R12 systems.

Using this stuff sure would save me a lot of money, and I wouldn't have to convert to R134.

Anyone ever use it before? Is this stuff any good?

    Cheers!

I bought a can but have not used it. The can says to drain the system of R-12 so while it is compatible, they don't seem to want it mixed in large concentrations or just want to sell more. I was told by an AC shop that they use it all the time with no problems.

Freeze 12 is a blend of 80% HCF-134a and 20% HCFC-142b. 80% 134a, no way is it compatable with R12 or the oil that is used in R12.

While Freeze 12 and other like products may be EPA approved, EPA does not give a guarantee as to what it will or will not do. Oil compatability, cooling efficiency, etc. Plus not reputable AC shop will work on a system CONTAMINATED with Freeze 12 or like products. It contaminates their recovery systems. Just another quick fix for used car dealers and fly by nights.

I still don't understand all the posts this product keeps generating. Real R12 is still available through any major supplier at about $16 per can. Last time I checked, the test to get certified for mobile AC is still "open book" (it comes with the study guide) so anybody can get certified.

Good point Mark. It is a lot cheaper to buy R-12 than to convert to 134, or to fix the mess that you will end up with Freeze 12 or the like.
