Re: Wanted: 1968 hardtop
Dale----
Check out eBay(www.ebay.com) item #127865487. This is the hardtop you're after, but it has the C08 black vinyl covering. If you're not interested in this option, I'd suggest passing on this one as the vinyl top can be tedious to remove. If you are interested, get your bid in quick----this auction closes at 1524 PDT on 7/13/99. Currently, there are no bidders and the opening bid is set at $450. I wouldn't bid over $600 for this top and I'd make sure first that it is COMPLETE. Hardtop parts are becoming increasingly scarce, especially the rear window stainless molding. Personally, I don't like the C08 vinyl covering, but it does solve one problem on a retro-fit application: if the covering is in good shape, you can bolt it right on the car with no need to paint it to match.
Anyway, if this top doesn't work out for you, don't fret: these tops aren't that hard to find. Expect to pay $500-700 for a decent, complete one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Dale,
Try Hemmings Motor News, available at most bookstores. I see '68 hardtops listed almost monthly for $450 - $750, You might also call Bob Garcia at Southwest Corvettes in El Paso. He frequently has these tops on hand. His telephone number is (915) 593-6367.- Top

Re: Wanted: 1968 hardtop
Dale,
If you are looking for a correct top, be aware that the '68 & early '69 tops did not have the metal tips at the back points of the hard top. Mid '69 thru '75 hardtops had the metal tips. I also understand that the '68 and most '69 tops only had two attachment points, while the late '69 thru '75 tops added a third attachment point added below the rear window. I don't know how difficult it would be to remove either of these items if you bought a later top, but it is a point to consider.

Re: Wanted: 1968 hardtop
Dale, Call Tony or Mike toll free at 888-318-3883. This is a junkyard in California called America's Finest Corvettes, excellent parts at below average cost. I have had good experience with them and they were recommended to me by another member of this Discussion Board, George Daina. It's worth a free call. Good luck, Kurt Bunting NCRS 26406- Top
