    Carb Question/Suggestions

I have a 66 327/300 with a Holley that is not original. It's giving me tremendous grief so I'm looking for some advice on a correct carb for my car that will pass NCRS. Here are some sources that I have found and I would like feedback on them.

    Chicago Corvette
    Jerry Luck
    Jerry McNeish
    Bob Kunz

    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    Rob -

I'd try Jerry Luck, and Bob Kunz, in that order. I doubt if Jerry MacNeish would have any - he's primarily a Camaro restorer, although he's terrific with any Holley if you have a usable core to restore/rebuild.

      I'd get a new one

Jeg's still sells brand new 3367 Holley 4-barrels for about $420. You really can't beat a new carburetor for trouble-free performance and good looks. When somebody wants to see if it's service dated, just drop the hood on them while they're checking.

          Jerry and Rob------

I agree. There is NOTHING that makes a car run better than a NEW carburetor. I've said that before; I say it now; and, I'll say it in the future, too.

If it's available and you can afford it, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS opt for the new carburetor.

            Re: Carb Question/Suggestions

The "carb guy" at Chicago Corvette is very knowledgeable and helpful. If you decide to go with an original, he can provide you a correct, dated, rebuilt original. You might want to get a new carb however, and compromise between "correct" and trouble-free operation. There are many larger, more important items cnsidered during judging that won't effect the every day operation of your engine. A friend of mine has a '66, 300HP with a new, replacement, undated carb. He was awarded a top flight award, and wouldn't trade the trouble-free operation of his carb just for a couple less deductions duging judging.

              Thanks

Thanks to all for their thoughts. It sounds like I'll have to compare time, cost, reliability, etc. to points and the law suit from the guy with a lump on his head!

BTW, what is the point deduct for no date stamp?

                    Rob:

Jerry Luck rebuilt my Holley. Not only does it look great, but he machined all mating surfaces, and installed new shaft bushings. I can't imagine any other wear factors, so I have to consider this carb "as new". My car certainly proves this out, because it runs "as new". If you decide to use Jerry Luck, be prepared to wait more than a few months, because he has plenty of work to do.
Ask him if he has a core in stock that he can restore for you.

Chicago Corvette has a large inventory of carbs and carb parts. I have been hearing some unsavory things about them lately. I personally have been satisfied with them.

That web site has seen up/down episodes as it was intitially tooled, redesigned, then yanked. If poster wants to reach Chicago Corvette the BW is to call, get their catalog, and do business via phone in the 'old' fashion.... Plus, remember to re-confirm current price of catalog items as some of what's in catalog print is obsolete.
