    C-3 1969 L-71

I have a 1969 L-71 and I'm trying to verify a couple of small items on the car. First, what type of gaskets should be on the bottom of the tri-power carbs; black or cork? Second, what stamping should be on the alternator adjusting bolt, for the swing arm, "TR" or "WB"?? Any information that you folks could lend would be great.

    Thanks

If by "bottom of the tri-power carbs" you mean the gaskets between the carbs and the intake manifold, I believe that those were a dark gray fiber/composition type gasket. Cork was, to my knowledge, never used for a carb-to-intake manifold gasket on a Corvette. If it was, it would have been a VERY early model year.

The alternator adjusting bolt for 1969 may have been 3 lines with "RSC", "TR", or, very likely, any one of several other markings. These bolts were a VERY common size used on GM cars of the period and I'm sure that GM bought them by the millions from a host of manufacturers.

I'm used to seeing a WB loco with three lines (grade 5) on the alternator adjusting bolt of 1969s, but Joe's options are sometimes seen. Regardless the headmark, the silver hex head cap screw is always grade 5.

Later 1969 will have a dark split lock washer, with a thick oversize natural flat washer against the adjusting brace. Early 1969s might have a toothed shake-proof lock washer instead of the split type. Remember the bolt goes in from the back of the alternator adjusting tab. I occasionally see the brace mistakenly installed on the front of the tab.

          Kelly

Feel free to drop me an email or send me a number and we can get together and talk at length. I'm being very detailed in my review of my car because I want to submit it for Bowtie judging this year.

          Thanks

            Gentlemen

Thanks for your input. My carb base gaskets are the dark gray described by Joe and I believe the alternator bolt is the "WB" that Terry noted, but I will have to take another look.

            Thanks Again
