    C1 lighters trivia

I see many people on E-Bay buying or selling the wrong lighter .
    1. A 55 to 57 car lighter won't fit in a original Corvette socket.( they are to large in diameter)
PS. if a Chevy is used in a Corvette , then the female housing has been changed.
    2. A car lighter has a brown Bakelite area of the lighter
    3. A 53 6V and 55 12V "only"as you see has a porcelain white area of the lighter showing and slits that can be opened more to hold the lighter in.
    4. A 53 & 54 6V wire raping ( the hot end ) is much less
    5. The 55 12V wire raping again ( hot end ) is more or larger in area the the 6V. ( that is how you can tell the difference between the two if you cant read the voltage.
    6. The 56 and up the white porcelain area is shielded with a cover, see pic.
Yes the 55 and 56 up will interchange or fit.
And yes all comments are welcomed good or bad~

Casco called the exterior 'sliding cover' surrounding the heating element the Ashguard feature (physical difference between your pix #2 and pix #3). The current edition of the '56-57 Judging Guide calls for the '58-62 version of the cig lighter element with 'ashguard' feature:

"The cigarette lighter was made by CASCO. It has a short heating element with a ceramic spacer behind the heating element. There is a guard over the element and a cone shaped washer between the knob and housing."

The current edition of our '53-55 Judging Guide has an interior section describing 'Ignition Switch & Lighter' but is totally absent of descriptive text regarding the lighter.

Perhaps your post here should be sent to the '53-55 National Team Leader as an update input for the next release of the JG book; better if can quantify the visual difference in 6V vs. 12V heating element winding count to help the novice judges who rely on the JG to supplement their personal knowledge.

      Re: C1 lighters trivia "jack"

You explain it better then me with the added info you just gave. "Vary good" I know your writing is better then mine because I often read your postings . It is a good idea , may be you could write NCRS. It would help out those that are looking for the right lighter. Thanks ROY
