Re: Can anyone help with old dealer codes?

Since zones, dealer ID's, and dealerships themselves changed (GM designation as well as merger/acquisition & business cessation), the issue is 'tricky'. To my knowledge, there is no really good chronological list (time of sale IS a key factor in identifying).

Three ways to investigate can bear fruit:

    (1) Order a window sticker from one of the older service bureaus that

specialize in reproduction Maroney documentation (Triple A Enterprises

of Indianapolis comes to mind -- sorry no phone # here). The bigger

outfits have and maintain lists to help their customers and get the

source info from other customers who have correct/original warranty

books and want the window dressing to match.

    (2) If you know the dealer was in the Boston area, go there (if it's not

inconvenient) or call there (on-line yellow pages) and politely try

to chat with more senior Chevy dealership sales/mgmt folks who could

remember. You may find them more helpful than you imagined if you

aren't 'pushy' and can get through the switchboard maze.

    (3) As an NCRS member, you're entitled to free ads in the club's Driveline

magazine. You'll find several 'wanted' sections and just might turn

up a reply from a fellow member who happens to have a similar car and/or

    know the answer.

As Jack mentioned, Triple A Enterprises in Indianapolis has a tremendous database of zone and dealer numbers, taken from original documents. He advertises in most of the magazines. Drop him a note. He helped me out finding my dealer #. The owner's name is Bill Petruck (spelling?) Chuck

Thank you gentleman for the advice. I know Bill and have tried him with no success. This dealer is no longer in his or GM's records. I have also contacted all relatively close dealerships in Boston and no luck. There seems to be too much turnover along with a unwillingness to help. I will put an ad in driveline, thank you for the advice. I live in St. Louis, of course where the plant used to be and have contacts who who work with GM locally and might be able to help me with past shipping records. I will let you know if I have any luck. Thank you for all your help. Jon Herrick

Jon, Triple A Enterprses is on line at www.window-sticker.com or FAX # 317-875-7636. I thought they had an 800 number but could not locate it. Good luck.

I can remember two dealers in the Boston area that I would visit back in the 60's. Commonwealth Chev (out of business) and Porter Chev in Cambridge, I believe Porter is still in business. I am still looking for dealer 001 and info on Mortensen's warehouse. I will check with some of the local corvette clubs in Massachusetts to see if I can find some info on your search and will get back to you. Good Luck

                        Jon,

If you are looking for your original dealer and have a policeman friend, you could have him (her?) try to get the info through the NICB. For specifics, see Jerry Bramlett's Restorer article of 1997. While they don't give this info to the public, apparently they do to police personnel. I am having this checked (if possible) right now for my 71 so that I can have a window sticker made. While I retrieved my tank sticker, it is unreadable.
