Not getting any power from the Red/White wire coming from the wiper deck lid switch that goes to the windshield wiper motor. I bypassed the switch and still no power. So its not the switch. I think that this is why my wipers are not working. I bench tested the motor and it is working. The fuse is good. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1970 Electrical Question
It may or may not help....but under the shifter console down along the tunnel is a wiper motor relay. The only reason I say this is that I have the exact same problem with my '70, and it's the only part of the system I haven't replaced, rebuilt or restored. Soooo...may be worth a look....- Top

Re: 1970 Electrical Question
Don:
Check the ground at the starter. This ground has a habit of getting corroded or broken. I had this on my '69 many years ago. Also, check to see if you have 12 volts at the red (I think) wire leading to the motor. If you have 12 volts there then check for ground and check the wiper switch inside the car. Hope this helps.

Re: 1970 Electrical Question
Ive got good ground, Ive checked the manual overide knob but Im not getting any voltage from the main power lead running from the wiper deck switch. Its not the switch because I have wired around it. Cant figure out from the electrical diagram as to where this wire gets its power from.- Top

OK, now?
I sent Don a JPEG of the wiper motor electrical schematic (NOT the simple wiring diagram) from the 1971 Chevy Chassis Service Manual ('71s are almost identical to '70 cars). The pictorial from the CSM's Chassis Electrical should be sufficient for Don to troubleshoot with.
For those you've followed this post, power flows from the battery to the starter where it's bussed through a fusible link (tape wrapped inside the starter wiring harness). From there, fusible link protected power is routed to the ignition switch and fuse block AND, on a separate, parallel, unfused path, through the steering column's wiper motor over ride switch, through the wiper door limit switch to the wiper motor's gear box relay switch.
So, if Don lacks power at the wiper door limit switch, it's because there's a fault (open circuit) between the main fusible link and the limit switch. Most likely a bad under steering column over ride switch or a 'Bubba' hack job in the existing wiring harness. It can't be the fault of the fusible link because that would defeat ALL cockpit power including the ignition switch....- Top

Re: 1970 Electrical Question
Don if you ran 12 volt power wire from say the relay on the drivers fender to the electrical switch on the firewall, your windshield wipers should work. Not knowing what I am talking about, then the power going through this switch goes to the switch on the dash, which will control the on and off of the wipers and the selected speed.
Reason I say this is that you can raise the wiper door with the under dash pull down switch and this function will depress the electrical switch on the firewall sending power to the dash control switch and not the windshield wiper motor.
There is a vacuum/electrical solenoid switch under the dash. I am not knowledgable as to how this switch ties into the whole system. I have the service manuals, but have not researched it.
Anyway if you run the 12 volt power to the firewall electrical switch and you have windshield wipers again functional, at least you can drive in the rain untill you can discover why there is no power through the factory wiring harness.- Top
