Since I'm putting all new pipes on my '70 LT-1, I was pondering the idea of installing an oxygen sensor in my crossover pipe, and putting in an air/fuel GAUGE from Auto Meter in the space my non-working-and-who-the-heck-needs-it-anyway-at-100-mph clock is. I'd be very interested to see what air/fuel ratio I have at all RPMs, and to me it seems like a very valueable tuning tool. Has anyone else put one on their car, and how accurate and helpful are they? I also see that MSD, K&N, Holley and Edelbrock all have air/fuel METERS that indicate rich/lean conditions that appear more for tuning than knowing what your engine's doing while driving. I'd really like to be able to get my idle, jetting and power valving on the money so I have a benchmark to go by for doing other tuning.Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!!

Does that kit use a wide range O2 sensor.
If not, it is only accurate over an extremely narrow range and will only tell you if it is rich or lean but give no idea how much. This system can be used to help set the carb but can be difficult. The mixture can actually be quite close but you don't know it because the O2 sensor doesn't have the operating range to give you an accurate reading.

From what I can tell they all use wide range O2 sensors..it'll be a while until I can get to getting one and installing it, but I'll letcha know. I also read a very interesting article in the latest Hemmings Muscle Car mag about exhaust analyzers....a company called Innovate Motorsports makes a neat handheld unit that a guy could use on his 'Vette or garden tractor. It's around $400.00, but it would take the guesswork out of tuning the car, lawnmower, etc...or so I'm told.....anybody got one?- Top
