I'm getting ready to put my intake manifold back on and it's been 30 years since the last time I performed this trick. I am told that new intake gaskets do not need "any" gasket sealer. PARAGON was the last people to tell me this! Can this be correct??? I cannot imagine the corners don't leak. It must be all that new technology :-) hmmm

It's probably a good idea to cement (Hi-tack or equivalent) end gaskets to the block to keep them from slipping during manifold installation, and tack the port gaskets to the heads in a few places with Hi-tack to keep them in place.
Then the use of a sealer - like a dab of silicone - between the end gaskets and port gasket junctions should preclude any leaks there.

I also use a thin bead of Ultra-Copper RTV around the front and rear coolant transfer ports, and use a larger bead instead of the separate front and rear seals; having it leak-free is more important to me than a point or two.- Top
