    Water Temp Sending Unit

I believe I've got a temp sending unit inop in my '67 C2 big block. I have continuity through the wire so I know that it is not the gauge. Can I put the sending unit in hot water and check a resistance before and after? If so what should it be? Thanks Blake

With the wire disconnected at the sender, the gauge should show full cold; with the wire grounded to the engine, the gauge should show full hot - that will check the gauge and wiring. If that checks out, you can do the sender-in-the-pan-on-the-stove trick with a thermometer and VOM; should show somewhere around 600-700 ohms at room temp, and around 80 ohms or so at boiling (212*F). At least that will indicate if the sender is still functional.
