    Re: ENGINE DATES

the dec 62 870 block is within the 6 month window that NCRS considers appropriate for the interval between case casting date and car assembly date. however, your example of 4 month window is atypical. i feel real comfortable when the case cast date is 2 two 4 weeks priopr to the cars assembly date. you won't loose any points with a 4 month interval. mike

      Mike,
What about the other end of the spectrum? When do you start feeling ill at ease as the gap narrows between the two dates? 10 days, 9, one week?
My 870 block has a window of I think 8 days between case casting date and build assembly. While some say that this is far too close, I have been shown a top flight car next to mine on the show field that was actually closer than this.
Richard, my '63 was built May 15, '63.

Syd: it's not at all uncommon for the casting date just one or two days prior to the machine assembly date. Your example of an 8 day interval between cast date and mach. ass. date is very typical of non-restamped(ie original cases) regards., mike

          Mike,
Just as I suspected. As a matter of fact, one of the people who told me that the dates were somewhat to close together was a professional engine rebuilder (and said expert) who also specialises as a custom "restamper"! They advertise in Hemmings.

            for sale too.

More in line with his "ideal window" too of course.

Thats a bet you would have won.
Tried to tell me that I would be better off with a "safe" casting block so as not to raise any suspicion if I decided to go to Bloomington down the road.
Claims to have made many top-flight and B.golds in his resume. I just wanted info on rebuild!
We are the NCRS. If you are going to restore your car as original, like fix the work that Bubba did to your original pad on a 250 hp, and re-stamp it as a 250 horse, document it!! Do not take advantage of these services for personal gain.
              Don't mess with history!!
