Any one know the numbers for a Big Block smog pump. Looking at one off a 1968 big block with 7801149 stamped on it and has 67 as a date also stamped on it. Will this pump work and look right even if the numbers are not correct. Thanks Larry

Re: Smog pump numbers for 1967
Larry I replaced the original smog pump on my 68 a few months ago. I ordered a rebuilt one from Auto Zone and had it in a couple of days. It looks just like my original one, just cleaner and is a lot quieter. I kept my original to pass on with the car some day. The rebuilt one works just fine. I think I have read that the numbers on the smog pump are obscured.- Top

Re: Smog pump numbers for 1967
Larry-----
The configuration of the 1968 smog pump (this or a later pump is what you have as evidenced by the casting number on the rear plate) is completely different than the 66-67 style. The later are not interchangeable since the entire system is different. You could probably retrofit a complete 1968 system, but then the TOTAL configuration would be wrong. The 1967 Corvette-only pumps are a LOT more difficult to come by than the 68+ which were used on many other models.
Now, that's it for me. I'm off to LA for several days.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
