Re: 1977 Needs more Horespower
Remove hood, install computer controlled, water cooled, nitrous shot paced, supercharger. A nice Carroll system will run you less than $6K you WILL be 'nailed' into your seat back....
Attempts to significantly enhance engine output AND be undetectable to factory concours judges will fail miserably....
Kidding aside, you're on the horns of a dilema. There really isn't a whole lot you can do to have your cake and eat it too. It's either a factory concours restoration/preservation of automotive history OR it's a radical 'hybrid' job for most of our Corvettes (ye olde fork in the road). Remember, 1977 cars were designed and shipped between the 1st and 2nd Arab Oil Embargo incidents and there simply wasn't a lot happening in automotive history beyond 'keep the doors open' and 'can we stay in business' questioning....- Top

Re: 1977 Needs more Horespower
Which engine - L-48 or L-82?
The first thing to do is retrofit a pre-'75 full dual exhaust system, but
not if you have to go through emission testing.
Remap the ignition curve.
Elimiate the inlet air heat stove and recalibrate the carburetor.
If a L-48, install a L-82 cam, but not recommended if it's an auto trans.

Re: 1977 Needs more Horespower
You won't really add a lot of horsepower without opening the engine. If you do take apart the engine, you can easily get 350+ horsepower with a decent idle (hydraulic roller cam) but you'll need headers and a dual exhaust.
Other option, just put a 80 to 100 horse nitrous plate system on it and have fun for a total cost of about $400. If you go much over 100 horsepower, you're likely to get into reliability problems. Other advantage of nitrous is that it's easily removed if you want to get the car judged or sell it.- Top
