I have had a 59 since 1973 and I am the 3rd owner. I've tried to contact the past owners for years with no success. My question is the car was built Jan. 29,59 and the engine build date is Jan.15,59 but there is no suffix number stamped on the pad. Everything else on the car is correct. Was there any blocks without a stamp and if not can the suffix be stamped on this block? If so who can I contact to do this?

Re: C1 block stamp
gary: is there any stamping on the pad.? look real close, under magnification, after cleaning the pad with paper towels and WD-40(no screw drivers, chisels, rotary files, sandpaper, steel wool etc(in the event there exists factory horizontal broach marks are pressent)). if there is no evidence of rotaty broach marks(like the local machine shop would have left behind if a previous owner had the engione rebuilt and decked, and there are horizontal broach marks), then you have a winner. there are folks within the hobby who will rent you stamps and holders to address a problematic pad with no identifying data. mike- Top

Either your engine is original or...
You have a replacement engine and an AMAZING coincidence. NOBODY cared about originality when you got your car, certainly not to the extent of using a correctly dated block for a replacement. Don't stamp the pad, getting it faked will only cause problems, if you go for "flite" just take the hit on points. I have a correct-date replacement block with one letter missing- I'll never stamp it.- Top
