3840383 Bellhousing?

On my 65 SB vette this is the bellhousing it came with. Should be #3858403,right. Looks identical except for #. So what car did this come on? Thanks!

Dick -- 383 bellhousings on some '64s and '65's has been discussed (check the archives). My '65 L76 has a "383" although I can't vouch for the car's first 15 years. There's slight differences in rib X-section, bosses for Z-bar (drilled or not), etc.

I would not change it out just because the Tech Manual calls out "403".

Thanks Wayne: This bellhousing is dated for my car. I feel it is the factory installed bell., but can't prove it. I am going to use it. Dick
