I'm looking for suggestions on sources from which I can purchase a couple of Tapping Plates (1 for each side) that attach on the underside of the rear compartment area, allowing for the hangers of the T-Top roof panel straps to be securely held in place. This application is for a 1974 Corvette Coupe. I'd welcome other alternative suggestions as well.

Re: Tapping Plate forT-Top Strap Hangers
Ray, I don't remember seeing any tap plates of that variety, but it's been awhile since I plied the catalogs regularly. Try Paragon or Caledonia Corvettes; those are the two most likely places for those in my opinion.
If you can't find them, and I suspect there is a very good chance you may not, it wouldn't be too difficult to simply fabricate these plates yourself if you have the dimensions. Spray them flat black and rivet them on. If only it were as simple to make other parts, like an exact repo of the park brake handle, etc.- Top

Re: Tapping Plate forT-Top Strap Hangers
Chuck,
Thanks...I'll take a look at the two places you suggested. In the meantime, I received a reply from a member who's going to take a look to see if he's got a couple of them on a junk body. The one that's on the left rear has one good 10/32 threaded hole and it looks like I'm going to be able to drill out the other plugged hole and re-tap it (I have an old, small, 1/4" electric drill that allowed me to manuver around that area). Do you know if the hardware that attaches above the center armrest is secured with a plate? I didn't see one. Regards, Ray- Top

Re: Tapping Plate forT-Top Strap Hangers
Ray, from your description, the storage strap configuration could be different from my 70, so I can't really help from observation. My straps clip to chrome plated loops bolted to the floor and wheel wells using tapping plates.
What I can tell you is that NOTHING, to my knowledge, is attached to the fiberglass body without tapping plates. If it is attached to some component inside the car, then there will probably be tapped holes, but not tapping plates. If you have an AIM for your 74, you can find the location of the tapping plates in UPC1, Bolt-Weld. For 70, the T-top storage strap plates are shown on Sheet B8; they should be in about the same location for your 74.- Top

Re: Tapping Plate forT-Top Strap Hangers
Chuck,
From how you describe it, my storage strap configuration is very much the same as yours. All three straps clip to chrome plated loops, the two rear ones are attached to the wheel wells using tapping plates and with the center one, there are two threaded holes in the sheet metal for which to attach the loop.- Top
