    327 10.5:1 pistons

I am having my 62 327 340hp engine rebuilt. It needed to be bored .040 over. I am asking that it be at 10.5:1 instead of the 11.5:1.

My builder says that the TRW/Federal Mogal pistons available would give me ~10.8:1 compresion unless I use the "blue" composition gasket. I am concerned about detonation and do not want ot use additives if possible. I will rarely drive the car.

Any advice? I am getting the engine right for judging and am concerned the gaskets will lose points. Can anyone suggest a piston source and/or part?

    thanks

With typical deck clearance and a compostion gasket the actual CR will probably be near 10.5:1, but you should measure the relevent dimensions and compute the actual CR for your engine. The piston dome is 5.4 cc.

Replacing the Duntov cam with the LT-1 cam will lower dynamic CR in addition to improving top end power without a signficiant loss of low end torque. The lower dynamic CR will reduce the tendency to detonate and allow a more agressive ignition map.

I wouldn't let NCRS judging dictate what kind of head gaskets I used; use the ones that make sense for your engine buildup and don't worry about a couple of points.

I just put Keith Black 10.5 pistons in my 59-270HP.
