Need help w/ my 67 Wiper motor

Hello All - For the two years after I bought by 67, the windshield wiper motor never worked. I then spent a weekend cleaning the car and while driving the car down the road the wipers started working. Now they won't turn off!!! They do have the two speed function, but don't turn off when the switch is in the off position either when the car is on or in accessory mode. The only way I can stop them is to turn the car off or remove the wiring harness from the back of the dash switch. Any suggestions on where the problem may be? Do I have a ground fault problem? Bad switch? SHort in the motor? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Re: Need help w/ my 67 Wiper motor

It's been a long time and I have a touch of CRS. It could well be the switch but I think there is a park mechanism inside the wiper motor under the top plate. If the park mechanism is broken or not aligned right the motor will stay running. Check the wire leads at the motor with a test light. If the leads are hot with the switch in the off position than it's likely the switch.
If the test light goes out on the slow and fast leads when the switch is turned then check the park.
Come to think of it there may be a ground strap for the park mechanism also.

Someone that has been there more recently than I will jump in and clue us both in I'm sure

    Rob

Your copy of the '67 Chassis Service Manual should provide a nice troubleshooting chart based on WSW symptoms. It should also give you step by step proceedures to verify WSW components both on and off the vehicle.

You mentioned you had spent some time washing the car,Is it possible water is shorting out a circuit in the wiper system?
