Someone made reference that we can tell what rear we have by counting revolutions when hand turning the rear wheels on a lift. Any one gotany info on this or is there another way without disassembly?? Thanks in advance.. Mike #34566

Re: Rear end ratio on 67' L79
Jack the rear of your car up. Put a tape mark on he driveshaft and an opposing tape mark on your differential. Put another piece of tape at the 12 o'clock position on your fender well and a pencil mark on your tire. Rotate the tire one complete revolution and count the number of times the tape mark on the driveshaft passes the one on the differential. 3 1/3 equals 3.36. 3 1/2 equals 3.55, etc. Very quick, easy and accurate.

Here's an easier way.
Axle ratio = revs@60/775
The above assumes that the installed speedo gears are correct, but is independent of installed tire revs/mile; 775 is the revs/mi for the OE tires.
