    Headlight Motor Numbers

Where are the dates on the headlight motors? I have both out of my 67 coupe but the only number I can find is 5045375 on the aluminum gear housing.

    John,

The date is stamped to the left of the part number and about 1/4" lower. Probably a little corrosion or dirt hiding the number. The number you refered to (5045375) is the left hand motor case and the right hand should be 5045374.

    Regards,

    JR

I just finished cleaning that piece. It is blank with the exception of the part number. Thanks JR!

        JR,
I just finished pulling apart, cleaning and reassembling one of the motors for my 67 coupe. I've enclosed a picture of the right motor. My vin# ends 6252 which is said to be built around Dec. 19th, 1966. I'm guessing the 9-66 left of the copper ring is Sept., 1966. The aluminum plate that is attached with two large screws has the #'s 4912582 R.H. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Justin. It looks like my right one escaped stamping. My left one is dated 7 66 in the same area as yours. My VIN is 2396 about the middle of October of 1966. What did you use to clean the steel armature housing? Looks like a nice job on your motors.

            JR,
I used my friend's cabinet and blasted them "lightly" from about 12 inches away as to not etch them too badly. I really like Eastwood's products. A light coating of Cast Grey and a little clearcoat while it was still tacky. The ocean's air can flash rust something overnight here in Malibu, so I use the clear as added protection. Page 133 of the 1967 TIM and JG says,"Encased in a natural steel housing." My car is to be driven frequently and not judged, so I don't know about point deductions. Enjoy your resto!

An excellent treatment tip that I got from Steve Hack is to use Seymours stainless steel coating....it doesn't look like paint, and passes judging....
