    69 rear suspension

I was working on cleaning the underneath of my 69 and found 2 cables, 1 on each side going parralell with therear strut rods. I can't figure out what the purpose would be. 1 one on the right side is very loose not holing anything. They go from bushing to bushing, any ideas why they are there. The rods and bushings seem to be in very good condition. The cable is probably 1/4 in. and has a clamp on each end. Thanks in advance.

    Tom

P.S. I have talked to several vette guys around here and no one has ever seen anything like it.

    Re: 69 rear suspension

    Tom,

I have a '69 BB convertible. These probably are not stock items. Pehaps a former owner did some adjustment or replacement of the strut rods and did not want to have anything come loose. Maybe they thought it was a good "safety item" in case they were having rear camber setting problems.

I have no idea why someone would put these cables on the car. I no they are not stock items, but can't for the life of me figure out what they were trying to accomplish .I have talked to quite a few people that own and work on vettes and no one has ever heard of this.I hope to get some ideas from this forum.I am going to remove these as I see no purpose for them. Thanks for your time.

        Sounds exactly like the deal.

They either had old bushing tollerance issues and just didn't remove the cables after bushing replacement, or.....they might have jurry rigged an quick way to increase camber for racing purposes??

Got me swinging, maybe they just wanted to get you scratching your head with a poor idea of a joke.

Had a new car that kept coming back to our body shop with an on-going banging sound somewhere in the rear.

After about three visits and look arounds, they finally put me in the trunk with a flashlight and took the car for a ride (short ride).

The banging was a 1/2" nut wired up into an internal rear quarter panel brace way up where nobody would look, with a note stating "Compliments of Henry J."

The worse part of the whole affair was my Brother In-law drove the car on the test drive and he just loved Joey Chitwood and Bob Bonderant

I think the previous owner was an idiot. Some of the little thing I have found that cost pennys to fix have been jury rigged. The way he has these cables fastened from 1 strut bolt to the other they are basicly doing nothing. Like I said the one on the r.s. is really loose. There again if the bushing were bad which they are not they are only 10-12 bucks. Brand new rods are onlr 50 bucks.I geuss the guy was just plain cheap or stupid. Oh well it will take a little time and effort to DE BUBBATIZE it.Thanks again

            Re: Bubba's Been Here Too

How about a broken off garden hoe (with the head still attached no less) holding up the head light support beam?

It's true, I've got the evidence on film plus other wonderful shots of a devistated 68 by the hands of a knuckle dragger.

It ain't fun is it Tom? I share your pain

On the bright side for me though I know where my particular Bubba lives and I'm gonna take particular pleasure when I jab the throttle going by his shack!

            I'll be nothing but smiles

              Re: Bubba's Been Here Too

My latest Bubba find was some sort of caulk around the perimeter on one the rally's, used to glue the trim ring to the wheel, due to the clips rusting off the ring.
