    C2 More Electrial, More Bubba?

I have removed the glove box to remove the aftermarket radio installed by Bubba and re-install my original radio and found a number of wires spliced. What color/gauge wire should go to the glove box light. I found a Orange wire hanging behind the blove box,it looks to be cut off from something. Should it connected to the door jamb switch lamp? I also found two(2) Red 20G wires spliced together. I check my 1967 Corvette wiring diagram but don't see the glove box light listed. The Red wires need more investigation. I am the process tracing the spliced wiring, hopefully it will check out OK.

    Ralph,

The orange 20ga wire that is dangling free is most likely the glove box. On the AIM diagram it is listed as "inst. compt. lamp & switch".

According to my schematic, the red wires should be a splice of 6 wires:
    1. Fuse panel
    2. Ignition switch - battery
    3. Headlamp switch
    4. Headlamp circuit breaker
    5. Rear compartment courtesy lamps
    6. Inside (or inner of the 2 on the firewall) wire harness connector - then on into the charging circuit and starting circuit.

It sounds like you need a COLOR wiring diagram.

The orange wire is hot all the time, tape it to avoid sparks and a fire.

Here's a novice question for ya.

I'm looking at the wiring diagram for my '67 and I noticed the wires are grouped together. For example: all the OR (orange) wires are shown grouped together before they go to the fuse box; the GY (gray) wires are all grouped together before they go to the fuse box. What I'm getting at here, are the wires spliced together and pig tailed to the fuse box.

The orange wire is for the glove box light.

Yes, the orange wires are spliced together and a single wire goes to the fuseblock. reduces the amount of wire used and lessend congestion at the fuseblock.

Everywhere on the wiring diagram where you see one of those big dots with a single wire on one side with lots of wires leading from it on the other side, that's an internal splice connection inside the harness, which is crimped, soldered, and taped per standard Packard Electric harness build practice. If you unwrap the harness and remove the tape on the splice, they look like the photo below.

Thanks, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case a thousand man-hours. Now I can fix the Bubba wiring with confidence.
