My deck lid lacks about 3/8th of an inch from closing on to the top of the glove box. I installed a new weathstrip and the gap distance around the back & sides look good. I removed the male lock until I can figure this out. What can be holding this up?

This gap is not unusual on these old cars! You can try to adjust the latch to pull it down harder, but It will probably not get it all out. I almost allways pull the glove box and bond it back on in a position that will give an acceptable gap. I usually get it to where it is about a 1/8" gap. It is an easy job, but it is a task that needs to take place before you paint. The box is screwed and bonded on, you have to remove the screws and split the bond seam with a putty knife to move it. I know that this is not the way the General built them, but I just can't abide the huge gap!
