Which car cover is the best?

I need to get a new cover for my 67 Vette and when looking in the catalogs from various suppliers, THERE ARE TOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM!! :-) Maybe you guys can let me know what you think from your experiences? My primary use is for indoor storage, with the occasional outdoor use in a parting lot. My current cover is from Wolf, and is one of those thick high tech multi layer fabrics, that to me is a total pain. Doesn't feel soft so can't be good for the paint, and doesn't fold compactly at all. There is no way I can fit it is a washing machine, and I would like to be able to do that. Comments?? Good values out there that you can fill us in on?

I think any cover with a flannel lining will be good. I have a Wolf for my '59 just like you describe, and I don't care for it either. I suspect it is very hard on the paint. I have a flannel lined cover for my wife's '55 T-bird and it is very soft, and easy to work with. I will not buy another Wolf cover.

I have fitted California Car Cover "Plushweave" covers for each of my cars - gray cotton on the outside, plush flannel on the inside; nice and soft, won't scratch the paint. No way they'll fit in a regular washing machine; I think the only ones that will are just plain un-lined cotton dust covers.

Your Wolf cover probably has the flannel inner lining. The cover is heavy and the inner lining can pick up all sorts of stuff.
        1) Only put a cover on a clean car. If it is put on a "dirty" car it will pick up the "dirt" and scratch the finish the next time it is used.
        2) The Wolf is very heavy and if you try to remove or put it on alone without a "system," part of the inner cover can easily slide off the car and hit the ground. And, then to add insult to injury it is often wadded up quickly (the 5 second rule), usually picking up more dirt.
        4) Folding should be done carefully so that the inner liner does not come in contact with the outer liner where dust and stuff can be transferred from the outer to the inner.

I've always kept a Kimberly-Downs lightweight (makes the car look like a giant marshmellow) when the car will sit out with possibly of rain. It is lightweight and can be easily stowed in the trunk. In the garage I use the Cal Cover Plushweave.

I have only used Back East covers. I usually get them at Corvettes @ Carlisle.
I had a cotton un-lined and did not like that. I have had several for the various vettes that I have owned and all of them were the gray flannel lined. I have one for my '66 now and it fits vary nice. In fact it was to the laundry mat yesterday and got a wash and tumble dry. When you do wash them they had a tendence to shrink slightly, but after you put them on a few times they strech. They are not for outdoor use however. I bought a MAX Tech from Auto Accessories for outside use if I am going away and keeping the vette outside. It has been thru some hard rains and worked very well but is bulky as you already have. My three cents...Thank You

            Car cover for occasional outside?

I am also in the market for a new cover. Use will be primarily in a garage but occasionally will be used for road trips (driving to Breckenridge Jack!). I require a cover that offers the best water resistance and is compact when folded. Any suggestions are appreciated.

            Best regards,

Go to www.covercraft.com and study their material/useage use matrix. Then select the cover that is the best fit for your use and budget.

Re: Which car cover is the best?

Tim: I have had Back East covers and liked the soft cotton and have a Wolf which seems to a bit firm or nearly abrasive. I had a cotton cover from Mid-america which I washed gently in just warm water and dried gently low heat and it shrunk. When I contacted Mid-America they said I had not handled the cover correctly in the washing- drying procedure so it is on a 65 volks now.
Actually I like to have my cars int he heated storage with the covers off as I enjoy visiting my storage shed and just plain looking at the lines of the bodies even the 65 VW. The cars may collect a little dust but aren't getting roughed by the covers being taken off. Just my ideas.
