C1 Upper windshield moulding

Is the upper windshield moulding on a C1 supposed to completely surround the upper windshield track? I suspect this is the case, but when I took the windshield out of my '59 only one side of the upper windshield moulding was "incased" around the upper windshield track. If both sides of the moulding are supposed to go around the track, what is the trick to get both sides around the upper mount? It seems very difficult to get the moulding to stretch far enough to catch both sides of the track. Especially after I just spent a couple of hours buffing the stainless.... I don't want to damage it! Thanks.

Only the front edge actually goes over the channel completely. It sort of locks into the weatherstrip.

Ok.... this makes sense. This is how it was when I took it out. The front edge goes over the channel and the rear edge doesn't. Sure doesn't look right... but.........
