    Documentation

I have a 1963 swc that is in showroom condition as a result of a frame off restoration. The car has matching numbers throughout and I believe it has been restored to 100% original. I do have two problems that I would like to try and solve.

    1. I have documentation from the owner that restored the car from the

point that he bought the car untill he sold it to me. (i.e.- receipts

and photos of the restoration process.) Prior to that I have zip. What's

the best way to go about researching the car? The prior owner told me

    he tried with no success.

    2. Prior to restoration the car had not been licensed for some time and

there was no record of the title. The previous owner lived in New Jersy

and when he titled the car New Jersey assigned a new VIN. I live in

Pennsylvania and had to use the New Jersey assigned VIN when I titled

the car in Pennsylvania. I tried to use the original VIN but

Pennsylvania gave me the run around. Is there any way I can retitle

the car in Pennsylvania with the original VIN. Thanks!

    Re: Documentation

    Jeff,

Unfortunatley New Jersey no longer allows title searches for the reason that you want one (privacy being the issue). However, a police officer can probably get this information from DMV if they requested it. So, if you have a friend in NJ who is a cop, they may be able to help you.

As for the re-assigned VIN, was the car stolen at one point? Do you still have the original VIN tag on the body? Where is the new VIN attached?

    Good luck, John R. #31818

        Re: Documentation

Hello Jeff. The New Jersey owner should/could be able to remember who he bought the car from. That would be a start. Armed with a name, you could check on the Internet for a phone number and an address. You could also check with Corvette Clubs in the area. Usually states assign a VIN when the original VIN tag is missing. That's usually after a theft when the VIN is removed. I don't understand why the car had to be titled with an assigned NJ VIN if you have the original VIN number, unless the VIN tag is missing. The car should have had a NJ title with the original VIN with it regardless of how long the car had been "off the road" and not tagged. Chuck.
