A while back I posted a question on the differences between an #1110879 and an #1110891 distributor. I recieved some very useful information from several people that indicated that I needed to get an 879 for my '56 265 HP. I ordered one and when it came in (without a tag) it was identical to an 891 that I had. After some questions to the vendor it was determined that they had sent me an incorrect distributor and the rebuilders did not realize that there was a difference. Today I recieved a true 879 from the vendor with the correct cut out and oil holes. In short without the information recieved on this forum I would not have known that the first distributor was incorrect and may have damaged my engine. Thanks to all and thanks to Grossmuellers for rersearching the matter and taking care of the problem in short order.

56 Distributor Update
Steve, I also have a '56 with the origiunal 265 engine and I use both the 891 and 879 distributors. As long as the're installed in the proper position, there shouldn't be a problem.
The 879 has a flat spot above the drive gear and has to be installed in the proper position or the oil flow at that location will not pass the distributor.
The 891 has a grove around the distributor base instead of the flat spot, this allows the oil to circulate no matter what position the distributor is installed.
