    back up light switch C2

    Dear Members,
I just received my switch from Lectric Limited and misc. parts to install on my 1967 M-20. I can't find the wire to hook up the "L" shaped plug from the back up switch. Does it come from underneath the console down through the shifter hole? I think Bubba had a part in this somewhere. I bet he dropped the tranny without disconnecting the wiring and ripped everything from its origin. Thank you much!

Look on the firewall, on the left hand side, sort of behind the distributor.

Wiring runs up the LH side of the trans tunnel, clips are there for it and then up to the connection Ed mentioned.

The mating connector (pink and light green wires) comes out of the harness between the wiper motor and the master cylinder and drops down to connect to the pigtail that comes up from the backup light switch - it's just below the ballast resistor in the photo below.

As one who has a 66 with no working back-up lights and a box full of parts on the shelf, this discussion has been great. So if I understand it, if I plug my switch into the connector John pictured (which I just found!) then if everything else is ok, the lights should light when the switch closes. Correct?

you'll have to mount the switch on muncie side cover and hook its rod to the reverse lever then adjust same. Note the switch has its own fixed wiring harness, the originals having a pair of wires molded together, both wires' insulation being black with a narrow pink strip on one wire and a narrow green strip on its neighbor. . the service replacements are colored like the pigtail shown in John's Photo, ie, the NORS and Repo harness wires will be entirely pink, and the other molded member entirely green. Original harness awfully hard to come by. have looked for similar double moulded wire harness with correct colors in other gm cars of the 60's in local junkyards for 20 yrs or so and never found any identical to the original midyears backup switch harness. mike

              Correct, with the ignition on.

                Mike and Bill

Thaks. Yup, the lights lit up when I tested with the switch. I can see how the adjustment is going to be critical as the switch is only "made" for a very short arc of its travel. I was amazed that everything else was there (bulbs, wires, grounds) to make it work. I fully expected a nightmare. Now it's Miller time. Mike, I'm not going for correctness, just want them to work. I got the parts from Lectric Limited thru Zip a while ago and they have been sitting on the self until I thought I had a chance of making them work. This thread got me off the recliner.

                Thanks again
