Re: mid year add on air
Hi Dean,
Mid-Year add on air conditioning works great. The model you want to get is the "Factory Style with the heating unit" [an extra $100]. Aside from a new heater, there are two significant benifits to using this particular unit. First, you actually *replace* your existing heater box with the new A/C-heater box. The new box is completely out of view after installation. Second, you do not have to drill any holes in the firewall for hoses. So it is a 100% bolt-on operation with no modifications to the car. Both of these features are unique to the "with heating unit" model.
The part number at Ecklers is 32659 (63-65) small block
32664 (66-67) small block
Vendor is working on the big block version.
If ordering be prepared with the following:
a) year of car
b) original hp
c) present engine type and year
d) location of alternator L/R
e) preferred refrigerant type
f) if it was an original A/C car
It comes with about 25 pages of instructions. Not a difficult job but time consuming.

Re: mid year add on air
I used a Vintage Air package in my tube-frame D&D Grand Sport replica - their "SuperCooler" unit, not the bolt-in Corvette replacement (the D&D body has no "existing" heater holes to bolt up to). This unit is made primarily for large sedans and 4-door street rods, and is entirely inside the car (no engine side unit at all). I used the R-134a version with their Sanden compressor, heat, and dehumidified defrost - it worked beautifully and could freeze you out of the car when cranked on "full cool", plus the entire installation (except the compressor) was inside the car and hidden from view, so the A/C wasn't obvious unless you really looked for it.
