Installing a '67 Parking Brake "Slider" Cover?

I'm looking to replace the black plastic "slider" cover on the parking brake lever. The question I have, how does the slider fit over the handle? If so, how does the black plastic handle come off the chrome lever?
    Thanks Ken

A better quesion is where are you going to find and original 67 handle to replace it with? It is not made to be removed, but if you pull out on the button hard enough it will come off and the handle plastic will do the same.Keep in mind that they both may be unusable afterward.

      Ken,

As I remember because it has been some time the handle does not come off to replace the plastic slider. There is a break point in one of the ribs so that you can wrap it around the handle. I think I also had to cut some of the length off the end that goes under the shifter console as it wanted to bind up without doing that.

last one i got from GM was cut thru one of the slots, was longer than necesary and did not require removing the plastic handle. Seems to me i wrote a Restorer article on this subject in the early to mid-90's/ mike

Damn, I missed the point on that one. I thought he wanted to remove the plastic handle.
