I just purchased 3896929 gm 327/350hp cam and my engine builder thinks the idle will not pass NCRS PV test. Is there a different cam I can use to pass PVing and still give a little more power? Or will this cam be what I want? Thanks for any help. Bill

Re: Ci 283/ 230hp Cam specs
Bill------
The GM #3896929 IS the "300 hp" camshaft. It was used for base Corvette engines from 1967 through 1981 and it was used on MANY other Chevrolet lower hp small block V-8 engine applications during the same period. It was also the GM-catalogued SERVICE replacement for the GM #3733431 originally used for your application. The specs of the 2 cams are actually quite similar. I would expect that any differences in idle characteristics between these 2 cams would be indiscernable to even the most expert observer. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Ci 283/ 230hp Cam specs
The "929" is the late 327/300 HP cam, NOT the L-79 cam and IS the correct replacement for the 283/230. It is slighly different than the original cam, but will not alter the operating characteristics and should pass a PV without incident. For many years after the original base engine cam was replaced by the the 929 it served as the service replacement for all non-Duntov cammed engines back to '57.
Duration at .050" lifter rise is 194/202, 108/116 centerlines 112 LCA, .390"/.410" lift. If you ignition map and carburetion are properly set up it should idle butter smooth at 450-500 in neutral or drive with PG and have excellent low end torque.
