    75 Headlamp fittings - Dismantled

Hi A freind of mine has asked me the following question: I have just removed my headlamps to refurbish the lamps. rims and the little black bowls that the rims bolt to. I had two of the bowls repainted when I noticed the letter 'A' stamped on the third one beside one of the adjuster holes. I checked the other three and they each have a different letter, being 'B', 'C' and 'D'. you know if this is important because when I took them off I just put them in a box and now don't know if they should go back in alphabetical order and even if they have to, which side do I start!

I confess that this is beyond my knowledge, but I'm sure someone here will know staright away!

    Thanks

    Stephen

Stephen They need to be put in the correct location for the bulbs to fit with the lettering on the front of the bulb to be level. I am not sure how the lettering ABCD was I had mine marked but if you fit the bulbs first then you may be able to tell which side they go on.It was covered last year on this board if you can find it. Stephen-----

Beginning in ABOUT 1970, the nomenclature for identifying the headlight RINGS (that's what GM calls the bucket-like pieces that the sealed beams fit into) changed. Earlier used L-1, L-2, R-1, R-2. In about 1970, this chamged to A, B, C, D for PRODUCTION and SERVICE. All of the rings did not change at exactly the same time, so some early 70s cars may have had a combination of the earlier and later nomenclature as originally produced.

Anyway, the RING position for the later units are as follows:

A= left side LOW beam (outer)

B= right side HIGH beam (inner)

C= right side LOW beam (outer)

D= left side HIGH beam (inner)
