I am leaking oil at the oil pressure line that goes to the gauge. It is leaking at the engine connction. I snipped off a little piece at the end in case it was split, slipped it back over the port and tightened down the brass nut. Still is leaking. SHould there be some type of compression sleeve that slips over the hose that the nut compresses around the line to keep it tight? Thanks for the help.

Re: 1970 Oil Pressure Line - Help
Don,
You are exactly right. There needs to be a "ferrule" in the line to make the compression connection tight. The Corvette suppliers sell a kit however you most likely can find the part locally at an auto parts or plumbing store.- Top

Don and Dave-----
There is a FERRULE on the outside of the line at the connector and there is an INSERT inside the line at the ends. BOTH the ferrule and the insert are critical for a leak-free connection of the nylon line used for 68+ small block oil pressure lines. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe,
Thanks for that important additional detail. Hopefully the inside sleeve was saved when he shortened the line, therefore the ferrule is the only missing piece. If the sleeve is permanately attached to the short piece it can be heated thus melting the plastic and salvaging the tiny sleeve.- Top

Re: 1970 Oil Pressure Line - Help
Don, I don't know if you have a big or small block. I went through the same drill on my big block. The connection leaked and the wind blast from the fan blew the oil all over the under side of the car. Big mess.
The line was metal at the motor, and then switched to plastic at the valve cover. The ferrule was distorted from over tightening and would no longer make a good seal.
So I got a new oil pressure line kit from I beleive Paragon. Worked fine.1969 Riverside Gold Coupe, L71, 14,000 miles. Top Flight, 2 Star Bowtie.- Top
