    1964 conv. frame - need a source

    Hello,
I'm restoring my '64 conv. and now find the frame is too far gone to repair. I need a complete, correct frame; and have been unable to find a good used original. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reproduction source that makes a frame which will pass NCRS judging stds?
    Thanks for your help.

    Jeff-----

Corvette Products of Michigan located in Lake Orion, MI manufactures reproduction frames for your application. The ones that I've seen look very good, but I can't say if there might be some nuances of construction that may differ from the originals. I wouldn't worry about it too much as most of the frame can't be seen, anyway. If there are some differences in the parts that can be seen, so be it. With one of these frames you will have a SOLID, NEW frame that has been factory-built. NOT a used frame which may or may not have been previously field-repaired and/or which may be questionable as far as internal corrosion. If I needed a frame, this is the way I would go.

Otherwise, you may be able to locate a good used frame from a west-coast, rust-free car from source like Cranes Corvettes of San Diego or America's Finest Corvettes of Ramona, CA. Keep in mind, though, that although these frames may be rust-free, that does NOT mean that they are previously un-repaired. MANY, MANY Corvettes have sufferred front-end damage over their lives (try to find a good, un-hit front clip for a 63-72 Corvette and you'll see what I mean). With front end damage often goes frame damage, sometimes detected (and "repaired, for better or worse) and sometimes un-detected and/or un-repaired. ALL used frames are questionable, in my mind.

Joe, does the same go for a bird cage?

Are these sources (Cranes, America's Finest) a good lead for C2 bird cage components as well?
Or, by chance do you know of any established sources for repro cage sections?
I agree, it's pretty hard to compare new with 40+ yr old steel.
        Thanks!

          Syd-----

Yes, you might be able to obtain usable, rust free sections of the mid-year "bird cage" from either of the sources that I previously mentioned. As far as I know, there are few, if any, reproduction bird cage components currently available for mid years, so good used becomes about the only option.

I happened to stumble on a '64 frame on an old trailer in the storage yard of a bodyshop here in Florida last night. I was turning around on the street and saw it, it is a '64. I have no idea if it is for sale or what (no body seen anywhere and junk piled on it) but I'll get the name of the place for you if you want.
