    C3 - Tire Recomendation

I purchased a C3 with 68,000 miles for every day driving in the Metro-DC area. However, the car came with 225/60/15 blackwalls. I want to upgrade to what I was told is the correct size 225/70/15 tires with white lettering.

I have searched the internet looking for reviews of the tires in this size and it seems as if the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 gets the best consumer reviews for handling and wet handling in addition to many other categories.

I see most drivers are using Goodrich Radial T/As and Goodyear Eagles. I have never used a Firestone tire but based on the ratings it seems like this is the way to go. I would appreciate feedback from those of you driving a lot or at least who have comments on rain driving with any of these tires.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    In Andrew:

I see you've got a 71...recommended service replacement tire is the 215/70R15...maybe why you're scraping. Others can tell you more about correct sizing and what will work best.

    Oh...check that tire. It may be a 255/60 versus a 225/60.

      C3 - Tire Recomendation

      Andrew,

Duke Williams gave me the following advice when I asked the same type of question for my '68. Hope this helps:

The 215/70R-15 matches the revs/mile figure (775) of the OE F70-15s and the Pirelli P4000 is the best tire in this size, however, for a '68 with 7" wheels I recommend you go with one of the (760 revs/mile) 225/70R-15 police pursuit tires - Firestone PV41, GY Eagle RSA, or General XP2000V4. All but the General can be checked out at www.tirerack.com. The General can be checked out at their web site and the others are also at their respective manufacturers sites. The PV41 is tough to find on the Firestone site - look under
      "specialty tires".

I bought the Firehawks, a friend of mine who I trust who also owned a Vette thought highly of them.

I kind of wish I bought the "Police Firestones" that Dave recommended though.

I think that they would handle better.

        Regards,

        Rich

I drive a 03 Crown Vic police package for the S.O. that I work for. Our shop just put on a set of Goodyear RS-A's on it,and they are without a doubt the best rain tires that I have ever had on a unit in 18 years. Dry street performance is very good too. When I wear out the current tires on my 72 vette, I am going to try a set on it. Tom
