    '64 trailing arm question

    Hello,
I'm currently restoring a '64 conv. with a build date of late Dec.,'63. Upon disassembly,I've noted that the right and left rear susp. trailing arms are different. The left has a stamped bracket which contacts the jounce bumper on the frame rail just above it. The right side has no bracket. The jounce bumper must simply contact the top of the trailing arm.
Was there a change from one design to the other? If so when did it occur? Which part is correct for my car? I do not know the repair history of this car. Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Re: '64 trailing arm question

    Jeff,

I'm also restoring a Dec 63 built 64 convertible. Mine is a low milage car and I believe the trailing arms to be original to the car. They have no bracket welded to them other than the one for the brake line. The AIM illustration for 64 shows no bracket and there is no mention of a bracket in the JM. The Long Island catalog lists 63-64 as one application of trailing and 65-67 as another. Maybe the bracket is the one used for a rear stabalizer bar which I don't think was available for 64. I think that the jounce bumper was moved to another location on the frame for 65-67. However, if you check the Long Island catalog, they show the usage of a different jounce bumper in late 64. I'm sure there is someone who posts to this board regularly that knows for certain what the application for the arm with the bracket is.

      Jeff,

Phil is correct in that 1963 and 1964 Corvettes do not have the plate welded to the trailing arm. That did not start till 1965 and 65 trailing arms were a bit different in the fact they had a hold down clip for the brake line.

The rear stabilizer bar attaches to the trailing arm where the spring bolt goes thru the trailing arm on the top. There were two holes drilled on either side of the big hole for the spring bolt.

      Regards,

      JR
