    C2 Factory Air Problem

My 1964 coupe with factory air is blowing warm air with the air conditioning system engaged. The air was cold when I first bought the car, but gradually became warmer. I now know that I do not have a freon leak as I first suspected, because the shop I used to check out the a/c just called and said the system was not leaking and the lines were very cold. Just no cold air reaching the interior of the car. Does anyone have any idea of what the specific problem may be? Thanks so much for your help.

If the evaporator core is plugged with 'trash' (dirt, leaves, Etc.) makeup air will flow around it rather than through it leaving outlet air reaching the cabin virtually un-cooled....

The only thing that controls how cool the interior gets is the "COOL IN - HOT PULL" knob (along with the fan speed knob). This positions a damper that either sends air through the heater core or not (air always goes through the evaporator). If it's pushed all the way in and it's still not getting cool, then check to see if the cable is still connected to the damper. I believe it's behind the glove box and is horizontal.

Also it controls the heater control valve switch, which lets hot water into the box.

          Jack,

What is involved in accessing the evaporator core to look for "pluggage"? I'm a novice with a/c systems, but not afraid to tear into things as long it does not involve Freon leakage. Would I have to remove the dash pad(s)?

          Thanks for your help.

You can do it by the book (pull the air box off the firewall--yuk!!!!) or do it the way dealership 'rate buster' mechanics did it...find cleaver ways to gain access to the front side of the evap core (remove blower motor/fan, remove weep hole rubber bladder, Etc.) and use an articulating hose extention on a shop vac....
