    LT1 FUEL PUMP UPDATE

In an earlier post I stated I would be receiving a 40709 fuel pump from a AC DELCO parts distributor.Well I received it in a non GM box.The configuration is correct meaning the inlet at its bottom, when mounted to the motor, the inlet points to to passenger side and the outlet points to the drivers side left front tire, but their is no AC logo at the sides of the cast top section. There is the embossed or engraved part #40709A4 on the cast right side edge atop the bolt hole facing the radiator side. The part is brand new in appearance. The cost was $30.00.Please elaborate.
In my further searching I found another AC fuel pump in a genuine GM box with the parts plant pick tag attached, its part #6470110 and #40709 are written on the box and the box is dated 6/10/91.The configuration is the same as the above. It is new in appearance, with the AC logo on both sides of the top cast section, with a pink unledgable stamp next to the AC logo. The part # is located on the lower left edge of the cast section. The part # on the pump is 234Z40956.Is this the latter replacement for the 40709,if so then the 40709 is and was on factory delivered cars only.Cost $100.00.This may end my search.

    Re: LT1 FUEL PUMP UPDATE

What you purchased for $30.00 was current AC/GM service replacement. To my knowledge no AC logo pumps are being produced today

      Re: LT1 FUEL PUMP UPDATE

      Greg-----

The only fuel pumps that have the "AC" cast upon the upper body are those actually manufactured by the old AC Spark Plug Division of GM. AC has not manufactured a mechanical fuel pump in well over 10 years. All of the AC-Delco branded mechanical fuel pumps sold for at least the last 10 years are manufactured for AC-Delco by another manufacturer and packaged in AC-Delco boxes. Except for the logos, the pumps are very similar to the original pumps that AC manufactured. I expect that you get the exact same pump when you purchase a pump under any one of a host of other brand names, but I don't know that, for sure, so I would always use the AC-Delco-branded product.

The AC type 40709 pump was used in BOTH PRODUCTION and SERVICE and was sold in SERVICE for many years. I believe that it is now GM-discontinued. However, it may still be available through AC-Delco parts channels.
