    Master cyl. Identification

Can anyone (Joe ?) tell me what the application is for this master cylinder?
It has bleeds on it, and the date stamp looks to end in 7. Thanks, Tom

    Master cyl. Identification

In reference to my post of the master cyl., it seems that I left the casting number off my post. I think that it will help in identification. It is 5468309.

      Tom----

I believe the casting number is 5466309. In any event, the '309' (the portion of the number set that we're sure about) master cylinder casting was a 1-1/8" bore master cylinder used for power brake applications during the 1968 to about 1973 period. It was used interchangeably with the 5460346 which was more common for these applications. Except for the numbers, I've never been able to discern any other differences between the '309' and '346' master cylinders.

Thanks Joe. I had looked in my 68-69 tech info manual and it didn't mention these numbers, nor did the 70-72 manual.

          Tom-----

The '309' master cylinders were not that common, but I am very confident that they were used. Is the one that you have stamped "PG" on the front machined surface? That would confirm that this, particular, casting was originally part of a Corvette m/c assembly. The '346' and, likley, the '309' castings were used on other applications besides Corvette when they were machined and/or assembled into other finished master cylinders.
